Position Overview:

Responsible for managing and maintaining the networks, servers, operating systems, and communication links. Directs the efforts of the Information Technology staff and resources dedicated to supporting office automation, PCs and end user equipment, network and systems security, and database administration. Ensures the security of computer data and account information. Coordinates with management to establish and implement operating system goals and objectives. Oversees the scheduling, operation of the IT department, and supervises IT department personnel.

IT Manager Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Assumes responsibility for effectively managing and maintaining the technical support of IT systems.
    • Analyzes business functions and management information needs and seeks new and more effective systems solutions. Breaks down business needs and organizes them into technical support tasks.
    • Assists with controlling the budget for system hardware and software, hardware maintenance, and technical support education and training.
    • Directs the IT staff in analyzing, reviewing, enhancing, and tailoring existing systems to increase operating efficiency or to adapt to information needs.
    • Plans, documents, and implements a business recovery strategy to resume operations of computer platforms in the event of a disaster or similar contingency.
    • Ensures that systems operations are performed in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Implements programs, procedures, and controls to ensure that member data and information are secure.
    • Ensures systems integrity and performance. Develops long-term plans for the company’s computer system platforms.
  • Effectively supervises Computer Operations personnel, ensuring optimal performance.
    • Hires, trains, develops, and directs staff.
    • Conducts performance appraisals as required.
    • Formulates and implements employee corrective actions as needed.
    • Provides leadership and motivation to employees through effective delegation and goal setting.
    • Conducts regular staff meetings and ensures that commitments to users and Department goals are met.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication, coordination, and working relations with area staff and with management.
    • Keeps management informed of significant problems and progress attained in reaching established objectives. Provides recommendations to establish new and more effective systems and future equipment needs. Suggests systems-related procedures and changes.
    • Coordinates technical support and data security processes with IT personnel.
    • Prepares reports of system activities, discussing changes and their ramifications.
    • Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required.
    • Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management.
    • Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.


IT Manager Requirements:

  • College degree in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Thorough understanding of help desk operations and information systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of business software applications.
  • Five or more years of systems administrator/analyst, computer operations, or similar experience. At least 5 years of management experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Well organized, Solid project and personnel management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to assist and train others.
  • Certifications a plus.
